Brazil - Paradise for Water Sports
Active vacation with white water kayak in Santa Catarina
Brazil travelers can look forward to a true paradise for active vacationers. Whether climbing and paragliding in the hills of Rio de Janeiro, trekking in Chapada Diamantina, horseback safaris in the Pantanal or survival tours in the Amazon rainforest, no wishes remain unsatisfied.
Of course, Brazil is especially well suited for beach and water sports. Who is surprised? With almost eight thousand kilometers of coast, the country offers enough space for a round of beach volleyball or beach soccer. Large dunes often invite you to sandboard.
The beach Ipanema in Rio de Janeiro is especially suitable for surfing. More and more popular among surfers, however, is the Pororoca, a huge Amazon wave , that only occurs at certain times and then rolls up the Amazon for several hundred kilometers. The areas around Jericoacoara in the north or Florianópolis in the south of the country are among the world's best spots for kite surfing. And of course, the waters of Brazil often offer the possibility of sailing, jet skiing and water skiing. Besides these well-known water sports, you can also discover more and more often the so-called flyboarding. Here you are catapulted by a water jet up to nine meters high and float with your board above the water surface. Stand-Up Paddling is also absolutely trendy at the moment and can be practiced almost everywhere in one of the most water-rich countries in the world. In Brazil, you can also find some great snorkeling and diving areas, for example on the island Fernando de Noronha or in the crystal clear rivers of the Pantanal.
But what many vacationers don't know is that in Brazil you can go kayaking. For more relaxed natures, there are several quiet lagoons, lakes and bays. For those who like a little more action, white water kayaking is the best option. The federal state of Santa Catarina in the south of Brazil is particularly suitable for this. The partly wild rivers of this region, make their way through the Atlantic rainforest and canyons in untouched rocky landscapes. Different sections with different levels of difficulty alternate and challenge even the most demanding rafters. Depending on how sporty, brave and adventurous you are, whitewater passages, technical gushes and jumps from waterfalls up to five meters high are part of the program. However, these sections can of course also be skipped without any problems, depending on your preferences. In addition, every kayaker has his experienced guide on board, so that even absolute beginners can get a taste of this exciting sport.
Generally speaking, Santa Catarina is considered by far the safest of all Brazilian states. A rafting trip in the south of Brazil can be perfectly combined with a visit to Foz do Iguaçu. There you will find the largest waterfalls on earth, which should not be explored by kayak. A visit to the island of Florianópolis is also a good option. The so-called Ilha da Magia (magic island) is known for whale and dolphin watching. But there are also beautiful hiking trails that lead through the Atlantic rainforest. These trails often end at beautiful beaches, where you can relax at the end of an adventurous Brazil vacation. Or you can grab a surfboard and plunge into the waves again!
