Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, the capital of Brazil until 1960, is known worldwide for its sights, beautiful beaches and cheerful atmosphere. It is one of the most spectacular cities on earth and one of the best places to experience authentic Brazilian atmosphere. Enjoy the view from the top of Pão de Açúcar, visit the Statue of Christ or dance late into the night to samba rhythms at Pedra do Sal, a famous samba center of Rio.
The well-known south of Rio de Janeiro holds the most highlights for you. Like the spectacular beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana, the Cristo Redentor and the Tijuca National Park, one of the largest urban forests in the world. Don't miss the Maracanã Stadium on a side trip to the north. It is the largest soccer stadium in Brazil and was the site of the 2014 World Cup final.

São Paulo

São Paulo, Brazil's largest city, is attracting more and more "urban explorers" with its great cultural scene, excellent food and incomparable nightlife. This large and bustling metropolis can't boast the same impressive looks as Rio de Janeiro but is one of Brazil's most modern cities.
Among the nicest areas is Vila Madalena, with an exciting mix of trendy cafes, unique boutiques, artists' studios and thrilling nightlife. Ibirapuera Park also delights with its modern and characteristic buildings by the famous architect Oscar Niemeyer. At the wonderful Museu de Arte de São Paulo, Brazil's most important art museum, you will find an important collection of sculptures and paintings from the 14th century to the present day. A special highlight of the cultural scene is the Virada Cultural, the largest 24-hour festival in the world with numerous concerts, film and theater performances, art exhibitions and other cultural activities and offerings.

Brasília

A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, Brasília is an impressive example of urban development. Since Brazil wanted to have a centrally located capital and strengthen the infrastructure of the interior, it was decided in 1891 to build a new capital. At that time, the shape of an airplane was chosen as the ground plan of the new capital. In 1960, Brasília was inaugurated by then President Kubitschek and from then on replaced Rio de Janeiro as the capital. Many of the buildings were designed by the famous architect Oscar Niemeyer along the Eixo Monumental, the central 8-kilometer-long east-west axis. Among the most famous buildings are, for example, the impressive Brasília Cathedral, the Itamaraty Palace, the National Congress, as well as the Praça dos Três Poderes and the Palácio do Planalto.

Florianópolis

Florianópolis is the capital of Santa Catarina and holds several highlights for its visitors. First, the city is divided. One half is located on the mainland and the other on the island Ilha de Santa Catarina. The two halves are connected by bridges. The most famous is the spectacular Ponte Hercílio Luz. This popular photo motif is the largest suspension bridge in Brazil and a protected monument. The 42 beaches of Florianópolis are among the most beautiful in Brazil. Thanks to its relaxed atmosphere and wide range of activities and things to do, there is something for just about everyone here.

Salvador da Bahia

Salvador da Bahia used to be the capital of the New World. Today it represents a special colonial architecture, delicious Bahian food and Afro-Brazilian culture. Salvador is one of the most beautiful, vibrant and exciting cities in Brazil, combining music, beaches and culture for a unique experience.
Spend your day strolling the charming streets of the historic Pelourinho district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While you're there, admire the ornate churches and beautiful colorful buildings that now house boutiques, restaurants and bars. Take the Elevador Lacerda, which connects the upper city with the lower city, and enjoy the view from above. Discover the Mercado Modelo with its numerous stores or enjoy a few hours on the beautiful beaches in and around Salvador.

Ouro Preto

A delightful colonial town located in the mountains of Serra do Espinhaço. Thanks to its beautiful historic center, Ouro Preto has become a popular tourist destination. The name Ouro Preto, meaning "Black Gold" in English, comes from the huge gold deposit that was once found there. Strolling through the cobbled streets, it's like being transported back in time. Among the most beautiful sights are the beautiful Igreja de São Francisco de Assis, Praça Tiradentes, Basílica Nossa Senhora do Pilar and the Casa Guignard Museum. The Igreja de São Francisco de Assis is one of the most impressive and memorable churches in the city and you can get a great view of it from anywhere.
Also, you can still visit the Mina du Veloso, an old gold mine. 400 meters underground, a guide will show you the mine while explaining the most important historical facts and techniques of gold mining. If you are looking for something different, you can take a trip to Itacolomi Park. It is located on the outskirts of the city and enchants with its beautiful landscape and picturesque waterfalls. Since 1980, the old town of Ouro Preto has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Olinda

7 kilometers north of Recife, in the middle of the wonderful landscape between coconut trees, lies the magnificent city of Olinda, which is also on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The old town is breathtakingly beautiful and rich in colonial buildings, such as the Convento de São Francisco, the Igreja da Misericórdia or the Igreja da Sé. The name of the city can be derived from the Portuguese "O linda", which means "Oh, how beautiful". As you stroll through the wonderful old town, past the colorful houses and more than 30 impressive churches, convents and chapels, you won't be able to deny it. The city is also known for its great cultural scene. Numerous artists' studios and galleries can be found throughout the city. Maybe there is a souvenir for you? Olinda is also famous for its carnival, celebrating an exuberant and joyful street carnival that delights locals and tourists alike.

Paraty

The small, charming city of Paraty is located in the south of the state of Rio de Janeiro and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Paraty was once an important transshipment point for the gold trade. Today, it is a popular retreat for artists and a popular tourist destination. No wonder, thanks to its Portuguese colonial architecture and nearby wonderful natural attractions. You should definitely plan a walk through the historic city center to see the impressive buildings, streets and squares. Don't miss the Praça da Matriz and visit the Igreja Santa Rita and the adjacent houses. A real highlight are the many beaches in and around Paraty. The local distilleries are worth a visit and a tasting is simply a must.

Manaus

In the middle of the Amazon lies Manaus. One might think that a city located so deep in the rainforest would be somewhat behind in terms of urban development. But despite its remoteness, the city lacks nothing. Extravagant buildings, beautiful churches, museums and parks are just waiting for you to discover. The most impressive building is probably the Teatro Amazonas, a majestic opera house built in neoclassical architectural style.
Manaus is located at the confluence of the rivers Rio Negro and Rio Solimões. Here there are numerous opportunities to enjoy picturesque views. The city is the perfect place to sample exotic cuisine in one of the many restaurants. Many tours to the world's largest rainforest also depart from Manaus. Exciting excursions by water boat, river cruises or jungle tours - there is something for everyone here.

Lençóis

Lençóis, awarded with the "Prêmio Melhores Destinos" (Best Destination Award) in 2019, is located in the middle of the Chapada Diamantina National Park. The town has preserved the charm of an old colonial town to this day and the typical serene atmosphere of rural Brazil is still intact here. Colorful little houses surround the cobbled square, which is not infrequently still crossed on horseback. Small stores and inviting restaurants are everywhere. In the evening, the tables of the street bars fill up in the square and in the small alleys, music sounds from all corners and visitors and locals let the day end comfortably. In the days of the garimpeiros, the diamond seekers, Lençóis was the center of the diamond trade. Nowadays it is a popular destination to spend a few days in nature, far from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Lençóis is the perfect starting point for tours in the national park. Enjoy the wonderful view from one of the mesas or hike along the river courses and take a refreshing dip in one of the numerous waterfalls or natural swimming pools. The landscape is diverse and ranges from rainforest to savannah. Therefore, the area can be explored in a variety of ways: on foot, by bike, on horseback rides or on a canoe tour. An absolute highlight is a sunset on the mountain Pai Inácio.
