Learn Brazilian Portuguese

Brazilian Portuguese - a language of the future
Very few people learn a foreign language just to pass the time. Most choose a foreign language that gives you something in return. That means you need a language that many people speak, people who are interesting enough that you want to speak to them, in a country that is worth a visit. A language that is not too far away from your own.
Brazilian Portuguese should be on the shortlist of anyone interested. Brazil is one of the largest countries in the world with a population of about 190 million. It occupies half a continent and has an excellent economic future.
São Paulo is a business metropolis like New York. There is hardly a country richer and more beautiful in its flora and fauna than Brazil. The world's largest forest area, the Amazon, lies here. The weather and the beaches are stunning. The people are friendly, courteous, and open-hearted.
Language beginners will probably hear very often how good your "Portuguese" is before this is the case.
Learning Portuguese means you don't need to learn a new alphabet or lots of new grammar. One will learn hundreds of new words in a short time (azul = blue, verde = green, ...) and will quickly be able to guess simple sentences (O sistema bancario e muito forte = The bank system is very strong).
With a slightly modified pronunciation and some new words, Brazilian Portuguese will be understood in Portugal and parts of Africa and Asia.
Those who speak Spanish, French or Italian before will quickly find out that half the work is already done and if not - why not try these languages too. You will find out how easy it is to learn Portuguese and that the Brazil vacation will be much more authentic and interesting.
