Brazil Travel Packages: Bonito
The small town of Bonito, which means "beautiful" in English, is located southwest of Campo Grande in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The town’s approximately 20,000 inhabitants live in one of the most famous destinations for nature lovers and eco-tourists in Brazil. The various natural attractions and the beautiful surroundings legitimize the city's name. The most famous destinations are the canyon landscapes and waterfalls in the Serra da Bodoquena National Park. The variety of local flora and fauna is unique and with a little luck you can observe, for example, different macaws, toucans and anteaters in their natural environment. The region is especially famous for the crystal clear and deep blue color of its waters. When snorkeling in the rivers, you can observe a wide variety of fish that cavort in large numbers between roots and aquatic plants, just like in an aquarium. Furthermore, the emblem of the city, the Gruta do Lago Azul, belongs to the main attractions. In the cave of the karst mountains, approximately 12 miles (20 kilometers) away from the city, there is a deep azure lake with countless stalactites and stalagmites under water. When the sun is in the right position, the whole cave shines in blue light.
The region around Bonito can be visited almost year round. Only the rainy season from January to April should be avoided, because then many paths can be impassable due to the heavy rainfalls. Temperatures throughout the year average at 79 °F (26 °C). The region’s tropical climate does contain a dry season in the winter, between May and October. In the summer months, from November to April, it is very hot and humid.
