Brazil Travel Packages: Campo Grande

In Western Brazil, only a few hours from the Bolivian border, lies the capital of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Campo Grande was founded in 1872 in the fertile area of the Serra de Maracaju and is today home to about 885,000 inhabitants. Thanks to the generally good quality of life in the city and its proximity to Bolivia, many different ethnic groups have settled here. The colorful population consists of Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Paraguayan and Bolivian descendants.
Surrounded by the original vegetation of the Cerrado (Brazilian grasslands), the city is the southern gateway to the largest wetlands on earth, the Pantanal. Most tourists therefore come to Campo Grande to visit the natural attractions around Bonito or to stay at a fazenda in the South Pantanal. But also within the city there are many interesting places to discover. There are various markets and shops with local artisanship and culinary specialties.
The climate in Campo Grande is tropical with a dry season in the winter. Temperatures vary between 59 °F (15 °C) and 86 °F (30 °C) in the relatively coldest months from April to September. In contrast, the summer from October to March is very hot and humid with sometimes heavy rainfall. Temperatures are then between 68 °F (20 °C) at night and over 86 °F (30 °C) during the day.
