Brazil Travel Packages: Cuiaba
As the capital of the state of Mato Grosso, Cuiaba is the starting point for trips to the North Pantanal or to the mountainous region of Chapada dos Guimaraes 37 miles (60 kilometers) away. After its founding around 1764, the city profited from the gold rush. Houses and squares in the historic center still bear witness to this epoch. If museum visits appeal to you, then you are in the right place. The Fundacao Cultural de Mato Grosso houses three museums: one each for anthropology, natural history and popular culture. For lovers of architecture, the church of Nossa Senhora do Bom Despacho, built in 1720, is also recommended. It was built in Gothic style, inspired by Notre Dame in Paris. Also the church of Nossa Senhora do Rosario and the chapel of Sao Benedito are worth seeing. Both listed buildings were built in baroque style. In the many squares of Cuiaba there are often typical markets with numerous vendors. As a culinary highlight you can expect in the region especially fresh fish from the Pantanal. Before your trip to Cuiaba you should know the weather conditions. There are constantly high temperatures with average daily highs of 88 °F (31 °C) to 93 °F (34 °C). At night, however, it can get quite cool, depending on the season. You should also be aware of the higher rainfall from December to March. From May to September, on the other hand, it usually remains dry.
