About 55 miles (90 kilometers) north of Salvador, Imbassai is located in the tropics along the Costa dos Coqueiros. Over the years it has developed from a fishing village to a place with simple tourist infrastructure. The special thing about Imbassai is the mixture of great sandy beaches and a jungle-like ambience with a rich variety of nature. In the village there are numerous small restaurants and beach bars. Sports enthusiasts do not miss out with surfing, kayaking, tennis, golf and capoeira lessons. Those who are especially interested in the animal world should not miss a kayaking tour on the river. You will pass some bird sanctuaries and have a good chance to spot some rare species. You can cross the Imbassai River via one of the bridges or via boat to reach the beaches. Praia de Imbassai is the main attraction. This beach, lined with coconut palm trees, is picturesquely located between dunes and beautiful rivers. From December to March, summer, it can get up to 88 °F (31 °C) during the day. In the winter, from June to August, there are average lows of 66 °F (19 °C) to 68 °F (20 °C) during the day. The rainiest months are from April to July. The maximum amount of sunlight, up to seven hours a day, await you from October to January.
