In the beautiful state of Santa Catarina, in the South of Brazil, lies the small coastal town of Navegantes. Here, about 70,000 inhabitants make their livelihood from fishing, shipbuilding and, increasingly, from tourism. The adjacent new port also brings new opportunities for local trade, such as textile products from Santa Catarina.
Especially popular among visitors are the long beaches of the region, such as Meia Praia and Gravata, which, with their clean water, are perfect for swimming. The Atlantic waves also attract many surfers to the beaches, who find good conditions here year round. Along the wide promenade of the Avenida Beira Mar, visitors can stroll aimlessly, enjoying the ocean and the surrounding nature. Prominent points are Pedra da Miraguaia, where many anglers and fishermen gather, and the lighthouse from the 1930s. Near the ferry port is the historic church of Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes, which gave the city its name.
The surrounding hills are covered with dense foliage of the Atlantic Rainforest. On the Morro da Pedra, in the district of Escavaldos, nature lovers can enjoy the tropical scenery along several paths and hike through the protected jungle.
