This travel package was created for true nature lovers. Experience the diverse flora and fauna, spend a night in the jungle, and gain interesting insight from local people and researchers. The unique Uakari Lodge is located in the Mamiraua Sustainable Development Reserve where it floats peacefully on the water. This location makes it the perfect starting point for excursions and wildlife observation, including anteaters, sloths, monkeys, toucans, macaws, caimans, capybaras, and dolphins that live in this area.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival to Tefe and Boat Trip to Mamiraua Reserve

At Tefe airport you will be welcomed by your English-speaking guide. You will then continue your journey by boat to the Mamiraua Reserve where the Uakari Lodge is located. On the 1.5-hour trip you will have the opportunity to gain first impressions of the Amazon Rainforest and with a little luck you will spot some animals.
Upon arrival you will be shown around to get familiar with the amenities of the lodge. A short walk on an interpretation trail is scheduled in the afternoon for your first direct encounter with the rainforest. For dinner you are back at the lodge.
This exciting day will end with an interesting presentation about the history of the Mamiraua Sustainable Development Reserve and the projects developed together with the local population.

Day 2: Hiking Through the Rainforest
Included: Sunrise Hike, Piranha Fishing, Night Safari (in-group) | Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
The clocks tick differently in the rainforest. If you want to have a chance to see the animals active, you have to get up early. Tours will start in the morning hours. On today’s hike you will go into the green thickets of the jungle and with some luck you will see snakes, birds, or even wild mammals such as monkeys, sloths, or anteaters.
After lunch in the lodge you can enjoy the quiet atmosphere and relax at the pool, which is filled with natural water. At about 3:30 p.m. the afternoon activities will begin. You will have the opportunity to learn the traditional method of piranha fishing and try your luck at catching one yourself.
In the evening you will go on a night walk through the rainforest and have the opportunity to experience it from a completely different perspective.

Day 3: The Amazon Rainforest on Foot and by Boat

In the morning you will go on a hike through the unspoiled rainforest. Your guide will explain the flora and fauna and if you get lucky you might be able to observe animals in their natural habitat.
A boat excursion is scheduled for the afternoon and you will head to Mamiraua Lake. This lake is part of a unique nature reserve in Brazil. In this special scenery you hope not only for different animal sightings, but also for a sunset as only the rainforest can offer. On the way back to the lodge your guide will also try to show you nocturnal animals.

Day 4: Meet the Locals and Canoeing

Today is dedicated to learn more about the Amazon Rainforest and its inhabitants. To get in contact with the native people, you will visit a village in the morning. You will be accompanied by a local guide who will show you as much as possible and lead the group through the village.
In the afternoon you will have another chance for a close encounter with the rainforest. You will move through the waters of the flooded forest in a canoe. With some luck you will see monkeys, various bird species, or sloths.
In the evening you will meet with researchers to learn more about the biodiversity of the Amazon.

Day 5: Dolphin Search

Early in the morning you will go on a boat trip to experience the sunrise in the Amazon. During this excursion you might also be able to observe pink dolphins, typical in the region, as well as other animal species.
After some relaxation time at the lodge you will go on an afternoon hike to explore the surroundings and learn more about the animals and plants of the Amazon.
Following lunch is an adventure of spending the night in the jungle. A simple tree house is waiting for the group, where you can experience very closely the sounds of the jungle during the night.

Day 6: Meeting Locals and Researchers

Today you will visit another village. Together with your guide you will gain insight about the daily life of the native people and enjoy local cuisine with one of the families.
After this full-day experience you will return to the lodge to enjoy the afternoon. At night researchers from the Mamiraua Research Institute will give a lecture about their projects.

Day 7: Canoeing and Wildlife Observation
Included: Canoe Trip, Boat Excursion (in-group) | Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast you will take a canoe trip through the creeks for wildlife observation. You might be able to spot macaws, toucans, or hawks. During the trip your guide will give you a lot of interesting information about the biodiversity of the rainforest fauna.
In the afternoon you will explore the river system by motorboat to see other parts of the area and hopefully spot some more wildlife in the river or on the river banks. To complete your last excursion, the return to the lodge is planned for sunset so you can observe the play of colors from the boat.

Day 8: Return to Tefe

Depending on the schedule of your departure flight, you will return to Tefe in timely fashion.

- Due to AZUL flight schedules, this tour only begins every Monday and Friday.
- Electricity is mainly generated by solar energy, since the lodge invests in sustainability. Therefore, electrical devices such as cameras, mobile phones, tablets, and computers can only be charged between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. when the sunlight is at its strongest.
- Other pousada guests can also take part in the excursions with their own guides; however, this is not always the case.
- This trip can also be booked with private excursions (price available upon request).
- The itinerary is an example program for the dry season and can be adjusted according to weather conditions, animal abundance, and the water level. Individual activities can also be replaced by similar ones. The Amazon region can be visited year round. Please note, however, that during the rainy season (from May to July) walking tours are limited. Instead, the excursions here are mainly done by canoe. Animal sightings cannot be guaranteed.
